With over 721 Pokemon in existence and Pokemon Sun and Moon on the horizon (ha, celestial humor) there are bound to be more than a couple weird entries in our PokeDex. If you’ve never taken the time to look at some of these precious gems, fear not — Bit Cultures has you covered. Here are our Top 10 Weirdest PokeDex entries!

10. Magikarp (Platinum)

“A Magikarp living for many years can leap a mountain using Splash. The move remains useless, though.”

If you read through Magikarp’s Pokémon entries from across all of the different generations, you’ll find a lot of demeaning comments about it. Typically, Magikarp is referred to as being completely useless, pathetic, and an all-around waste of space. The weird part about this entry from Platinum is that it offers up a totally bizarre piece of information–that Magikarp can use its signature move, splash, to leap over a mountain–and then reminds us that Magikarp is still a worthless excuse for a Pokémon. Poor thing can’t catch a break.

9. Lampent (Black 2)

The spirits it absorbs fuel its baleful fire. It hangs around hospitals waiting for people to pass on.

Needless to say there are some pretty creepy and pretty spooky pokedex entries, and Lampent’s is definitely one of them. Lampent not only uses the souls of the dead to fuel its flame, but it actively seeks them out. Lampent wait patiently in hospitals for people to die so it can suck up their souls. This elevates Lampent’s spookiness to the next level, because as if just absorbing your soul wasn’t bad enough, Lampent are calculated and cold in the way they go about getting them.

8. Spoink (Ruby)

“Spoink bounces around on its tail. The shock of its bouncing makes its heart pump. As a result, this Pokémon cannot afford to stop bouncing – if it stops, its heart will stop.”

Spoink’s Ruby PokeDex entry is just sad. Oh, to think of the misfortune as being born as one of these. To suddenly lose balance while bouncing by tripping on a rock or some rough terrain, and fall, losing the ball atop your head…what a horrible life that Spoink must live, being native to mountainous regions of Hoenn! And that Pokemon Colosseum death animation just got a whole lot sadder…

7. Magcargo (Sapphire)

“Magcargo’s body temperature is approximately 18,000 degrees F. Water is vaporized on contact. If this Pokémon is caught in the rain, the raindrops instantly turn into steam, cloaking the area in a thick fog.”

This one is so ridiculous I can hardly put it into words. I can understand the Pokemon company trying to sell the idea that a lava Pokemon is hot, like really hot, it makes sense. But they might have gone a tad bit overboard with Magcargo. Magcargo clocks in at a solid 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit, you know what kicks in at a solid 10,000 degrees fahrenheit? The surface of the sun. Magcargo is hotter than the sun and that has to be dangerous for humans everywhere.

6. Yamask (Black)

Each of them carries a mask that used to be its face when it was human. Sometimes they look at it and cry.”

Okay, what? Since when are human beings able to turn into Pokémon? Apparently, it’s more common than you’d think (see Kadabra). The weirdest part about Yamask is not just that it used to be a human being, but that it carries its human face around. How did they even get their human face off of their human body? Also, think of the implications for Pokémon trainers. They capture a Yamask, who used to be a fellow human being, and force it to fight other creatures like some sort of deranged zombie brawl. Creepy.
