1. The Witcher
The Witcher series, which saw its third installation in the spring of 2015, is an RPG that follows Geralt of Rivia. There are lots of monsters and blood and all that other good stuff. The games are based off of a collection of stories and novels from Andrzej Sapkowski. He first published the stories in a science fiction magazine, and later went on to write a series of novels. These somewhat obscure writings later came to be the inspiration for the beloved, if occasionally problematic game series that we know today. Of course, the games actually showcase events which take place after the end of the book series giving gamers the rare opportunity to do some foundational research in order to build a stronger in-game narrative.
