1. The Great Pokémon War
One of the oldest and most well known theories in the history of Pokemon is this one. A theory that attempts to explain the lack of adult males that aren’t gym leaders, elite four, or incredibly old, why you playthrough the original games without a father, and even why 10 year old children are allowed to embark on these crazy adventures. The Great Pokemon War. If you didn’t know Lt. Surge, the electric gym leader in Kanto, opens up his battle with the line “Hey kid! What do you think you’re doing here? You won’t live long in combat! That’s for sure! I tell you what kid, electric Pokèmon saved me during the war!”. Lt. Surge has seen combat, it’s even implied that as a member of Kanto he was at some point on the losing end of the battle and therefore needed saving. This theory does seemed a little far-fetched for some period of time due to the games given audience, but with how XY dropped an even bomb bigger on us than this one, it’s not inconceivable that a writer at game freak laid out a little story for people to pick up on, maybe not one of fact, but a pretty interesting one none the less.
