1. Hyper Light Drifter
Hyper Light Drifter is, simply put, a masterpiece of game design. Everything about this game, from the fantastic art design to the elegant yet brutal combat to the subtle, understated storytelling and worldbuilding is impeccably devised and constructed. And that is why it’s more than a little unfair that this game fits so well on this list. It is unfair that following the release of Fez the indie game market was flooded with pixel art games of questionable quality possibly turning people off of game that look like Hyper Light Drifter. It’s unfair that Hyper Light Drifter was released in the same month as the Division. It’s unfair that a large swath of the gaming community will only play an action RPG if it has the word Zelda somewhere in the title. More people should play this game. Go play Hyper Light Drifter.
