The beautifully hand drawn indie series returns to its funding roots…
Stoic studio has begun a Kickstarter campaign to fund the third and final episode of The Banner Saga. The crowdfunding campaign has a goal of $200,000 and as of this writing has raised $122,914 with forty-one days remaining. The Austin Texas based indie studio has utilized crowd funding before with the first The Banner Saga. The games are a series of Viking inspired fantasy, turn based strategy games, with elements of Oregon Trail mixed in for variety.
Stoic may have chosen to return to Kickstarter because of the problematic development of The Banner Saga 2. The middle game of the series was initially funded by the studio itself but ran short of funds between the game’s PC release and console ports. More on the development woes of The Banner Saga 2 can be found in a development postmortem on Gamasutra and an interview on DualShockers. In spite of it’s rocky development history The Banner Saga 2 was one of Bit Culture’s Top 10 Games You May Have Missed In 2016.
