Sweet Christmas!

Marvel’s superhero franchises have made some big strides in the past ten years. From critically acclaimed films to beloved TV shows to even the comics that spawned them, the House of Ideas has staked their claim on every entertainment media imaginable-with one exception. Marvel’s recent crop of video games have been mostly mobile or tie-in affairs, lacking a major hit on the same level as DC’s Arkham Asylum series of Batman beat-em-ups. That may not be the case for much longer, though. With Insomniac taking on Spider-Man and Telltale jumping into Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel’s slowly crawling its way up to the top-and that crawl might just be turning into a sprint.

Square Enix and Marvel are teaming up to make new games based on Marvel’s titles, with the first being the obvious choice: The Avengers. Developed by Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics of Deus Ex and Tomb Raider fame respectively, the game seems like it’ll focus on the Avengers everyone knows from the movies (Captain America, the Hulk, Thor, and Iron Man). You can check out the trailer for The Avengers Project below-while there’s not much to it beyond teasing a “reassembling” of the core team, it’s got just enough atmosphere to get you hyped to see exactly what happens.

…oh, and for everyone who thought this would be a Kingdom Hearts announcement, my heart goes out to you, truly.
