This week’s PokeMonday is all about the Sleeping Pokemon, Snorlax!

Snorlax is among one of the heavier non-legendary Pokemon, weighing in at over 1,000 pounds! Snorlax eats over 900 pounds of food a day before promptly going to sleep, so it’s no wonder that they weigh so much! Perhaps they have a very high metabolism?

Snorlax’s digestive juices can digest anything, even most types of poisons, which makes sense considering its ability “Immunity”. Once they are full, they become too lethargic to even lift a finger – because of this, a lot of people in the Pokemon world find Snorlax’s stomach to be a fun place to play on. They say that what sounds like a cry may actually be the rumblings of its hungry stomach.

A few fun facts:

– Snorlax’s sprites throughout the games seem to steadily stand up as the games go on. Look it up!

– In Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, if you talk to your walking Snorlax while in Mt. Silver, the text will read “Snorlax is feeling very eager!” this is due to Red having a Snorlax in his party as well.

– In Pokemon Stadium, and subsequent 3D Pokemon games, Snorlax opens its eyes when it faints!

Snorlax’s English name might not be hard to decipher, but did you know that “Kabigon”, Snorlax’s Japanese name, in addition to being a play on words for “sleep”, “snoring” and “rest”, but was also a nickname for one of the Game Freak programmers? Koji Nishino was nicknamed “Kabigon”, and his in game appearance uses a Snorlax in battle when facing off against him in Black 2 and White 2!

Well, that’s all for today! Thanks for stopping by! If you have a Pokemon you’d like to see covered, leave us a comment below! Until next time!
