Pikachu is 1’04”, only a bit bigger than a 2-liter bottle of soda. On average, Pikachu weigh in at about 13 pounds, even though in older pictures of Pikachu depict him as a little chubbier. Pikachu have Static as their primary ability, but they can have Lightning Rod as a hidden ability if you get one through special means.

Everyone knows that Pikachu evolve from Pichu and into Raichu, but did you know that Pichu’s shiny coloration is the same as a Pikachu’s coloration? You were able to obtain a special Pikachu-colored Pichu via an event in HeartGold and Soulsilver!

Although bearing no kinds of wings or flippers of any kind, certain Pikachu can take up balloons or surfboards and learn the moves Surf And Fly! Pikachu is one of the only Pokemon to learn these moves in this way! Pichu can also inherit the special move Volt Tackle if you breed Pikachu with a special Light Ball in hand. Volt Tackle is a very special move that only Pikachu can learn, and is a move that packs a Pika-punch!

Did you know that the Pokemon mascot we all know and love today WASN’T originally our yellow friend? That title was going to go to the pink Pokemon Clefairy, but was changed to Pikachu to mirror Ash’s popular starter Pokemon. Speaking of, Clefairy was actually supposed to be Ash’s starter Pokemon as well! This changed would have aligned Pokemon closer to the Pocket Monsters manga, which starred Pokemon Trainer Red and his Clefairy.

And finally, Pikachu’s name comes from PikaPika, which is the Japanese onomatopoeia for a sparkling sound, and ChuChu, which is the Japanese onomatopoeia for a mouse’s squeaking!
