This week’s PokeMonday shines the spotlight on none other than the Guardian of the Sea itself, Lugia, the Diving Pokemon!
Did you know that even though Lugia is the Guardian of the Sea in the Pokemon anime, Lugia is not a Water type? Lugia is a Psychic/Flying type, which may explain why he is able to speak and understand humans. Even in the Pokemon Trading Card Game, Lugia has often been depicted as a Water-type card. How can a Pokemon that is tied enough to the sea to be called its Guardian not be a Water type in the first place?
Lugia is a very very large Pokemon, standing at about 17 feet tall! That’s about as tall as three times the average adult human male! Lugia weight in at a lean 476 pounds, which makes it an easy flyer and a swift swimmer (although it gets Pressure and Multiscale as abilities, and not Swift Swim).
Lugia has actually been the mascot of three Pokemon games, making it the mascot of the most games in the Pokemon franchise. These games are: Pokemon Silver, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, and Pokemon SoulSilver. It must be a very popular Pokemon to have such an honor!
Did you know that Lugia’s shiny form in all of the main-series Pokemon games has a pink belly and spikes? But in Pokemon Stadium 2, Lugia’s shiny form was depicted as green instead of pink. Oops!
Lugia’s special move is called Aeroblast, which is a very powerful Flying-type move that has a very high critical-hit ratio. It’s Lugia’s signature move, which means that only Lugia is able to learn it! And with its legendary stats, Lugia’s definitely not a Pokemon you want to mess around with!
Welp, that’s it for this week’s Pokemonday! What Pokemon do you want to see next week? Let us know in the comments!
