This week’s PokeMonday is all about the Sun Pokemon, Espeon!
Espeon is a catlike Pokemon, that has a red jewel in the middle of its forehead, similar to that of a fortune teller, but did you know that these Pokemon also share their appearance with a Japanese mythological creature? Espeon seems to resemble a Nekomata, which is a very intelligent creature that resembles a mixture of a goblin and a cat. Nekomata also have forked tails, just like Espeon!
Espeon is able to be evolved by raising its friendship in the daytime, but because of this, it was impossible to evolve an Eevee into Espeon (or Umbreon, for that matter) in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. This was because there was no time system set in place for these games. Players would have to trade their Eevees over to copies of Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald to evolve them into Espeon or Umbreon, or receive an Espeon from Pokemon Colosseum or Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness.
It is said that an Espeon is extremely loyal to any trainer that it deems worthy. It has extremely sensitive fur that it can use to forecast the weather, or even use to predict its opponent’s next move. When this happens, its tail quivers at a high frequency! You can count on Espeon to protect you from harm!
Espeon’s name in English is a derivation of ESPer, or a person that can predict the future. But in Japanese, Espeon’s name is Erufie, which is a mixture of “esupaa” or ESPer, and “fiiru” or feel. It was probably named this way because of its innate psychic abilities!
Well, that’s all for today’s PokeMonday! Did you have an Espeon in one of your Pokemon adventures? If so, tell us about it in the comments! And while you’re at it, tell us your favorite Pokemon, and maybe we’ll feature it on next week’s entry!
