Praise the Sun

FromSoftware released several new screenshots for its upcoming RPG medieval fantasy game, Dark Souls III.  The Souls series is known for its brutal difficulty and darkly beautiful environments.  And based on these screenshots, it looks to be more of the same.

The screenshots clearly show the cleric, sorcerer, thief, knight, and deprived starting classes.  The deprived picture looks like something from Far Cry Primal.  There also some multiplayer elements as well.  The praise the sun gesture clearly refers to the Warriors of Sunlight, popularized by Solaire in Dark Souls.  The screenshot of the red phantom fighting the blue phantom looks like the Blue Sentinals covenant, which defends players from red invaders.  The purple phantom looks interesting, possibly an NPC invader or a new covenant.

Finally, the screenshots emphasized Dark Souls III’s new gameplay mechanic, weapon arts.  Weapon arts are a special two handed stance that enables you to unleash more devastating attacks on your enemies.  The trade off is that this leaves you more vulnerable because it requires both hands.  Each weapon has its own stance and different attacks.
