Best Racing Game

Forza Horizon 3

There are very few games that are so damn good that I find myself forcing myself to take breaks in between the hours-long play sessions. Forza Horizon 3 is one of those games. While I could spend hours (literally) just admiring the sun-soaked beaches, lush rainforests and roaming fields of the Australian outback, the incredibly beautiful open world environment somehow takes a back seat in comparison to the driving gameplay. Forza’s Horizon series is known for its more arcade-style of racing, and while that certainly remains true with Horizon 3, that doesn’t stop developer Turn 10 Studios from delivering a driving experience that’s still aggressively realistic. They cut all the right corners in the physics department to ensure that cars handle realistically while still making it accessible to do crazy maneuvers (like drifting corners going 130mph). The end result is an open-world racer that sets the bar for the genre going forward. For Forza Horizon 3 to receive the Bit Cultures award for Best Racing Game of 2016 is a no-brainer.

Runner Up

TrackMania Turbo

While the pool of racing games in 2016 was pretty shallow, TrackMania Turbo provided an ample amount of customizable fun. With plenty of jaw-dropping and gravity-defying tracks, a robust multiplayer offering (including four-player splitscreen!), and TrackMania’s deep custom track maker, there’s no shortage of fun in this crazy arcade racer.
