1. World of Final Fantasy

Boy, was it difficult coming to this conclusion. While the year 2016 may have been a tragedy stuck on repeat, it did feature some pretty awesome video games. Uncharted 4 is special, and it has won numerous Game of the Year awards to date – and it deserves those. But for me, personally, World of Final Fantasy hit a sweet spot. It’s not perfect, of course, but it spiced up the Final Fantasy franchise with innovation, dark storytelling, and adorable monsters (known as Mirages). Initially advertised (to me, anyway) as a child’s game, I soon learned that, despite its outward appearance, World of Final Fantasy is anything but. Yes, it has silly dialogue sometimes and childish gags at others, but its story is twisted and dark, and its themes break the heart. Let’s not forget how addicting and enjoyable the monster catching mechanics of World of Final Fantasy were, too. With a little bit of polishing, a sequel could far surpass its elder sibling and earn many accolades.
