Starz has announced that their original series Black Sails will be ending at the conclusion of its 4th Season. Created by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine for Starz. Black Sails debuted in January of 2014. It is the first of Starz original series to pass 3 seasons, a record original made by Spartacus and Da Vinci’s Demons.
The pirate adventure series set in New Providence Island serving as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island. The story follows feared pirate Captain Flint, played by Toby Stephens. It also pulls from historical figures of the time period, Blackbeard, Charles Vane, Jack Rackham, and Anne Bonny to name a few.
This news of the series ending can be a bitter pill to swallow for fans. Some potential solace can be taken in that the series is not being cancelled. Rather the decision to end at the 4th season was made by the creators.
