1. Solid Snake and Raiden (Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty)

Well here we are. If you didn’t think this was going to be number 1, then clearly you weren’t a part of one of the biggest switcheroos in video game history. After a solid (No pun intended) trailer for a second MGS title, fans and critics were going crazy for our favourite espionage reptile. Then came the eventually release. They we were, booting up our systems and getting ready for another action packed adventure with the one and only, Solid Snake. That is, until after an hour in (depending on your play style) the main character was traded out for an entirely new recruit name Raiden… seriously? The outcry was vocal and the fans bewildered, who was this nobody that we were taking control of? Although the game was still enjoyable and fun overall, the in-game cry of ‘Snake?…Snake!…SNAAAAKE’ would mean something else entirely for fans. Frankly,  the sequel would end up being the benchmark for industry mistrust for the next couple of years. Oh, how times have changed.
