Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist is a new game by William Pugh (co-developer of the Stanley Parable) and his new studio Crows Crows Crows.
In similar Stanley style, it has the player navigate their way through different rooms guided by a narrator, who is voiced by British comedian Simon Amstell. Dr. Langeskov is twenty minutes of smart comedy and is completely free, ready for you to download via steam and itch.io.
Dr. Langeskov is better played without knowing much about it, making it difficult for reviewers to describe. There are lots of little secrets and goodies to examine and find which are worth a couple of play throughs. Visually, Dr. Langeskov keeps the art style simple but what really elevates it visually is the use of light and shadow. There are some eye-catching silhouettes and colour choices that really set an atmosphere.
In true British fashion, the narrator is bumbling and awkward as he leads you from room to room. This could be annoying, but Simon Amstell’s great performance has definitive charm. Complimentary to Stanley, there is a lot of fun fourth wall breaking and reflexive thinking. There is an underlying statement about the process of game development, whether its charming or silly is down to interpretation.
Dodging explosions, pulling leavers and releasing tigers, Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist is a self-reflexive, witty short comedy that is definitely worth your time.
